FAQs

Q: What R-value is the Energy Miser® Insulated Ceiling & Wall System available in?
A: The Energy Miser® system is available at R-10 and higher R-values.

Q: How does the Energy Miser® system install in my hangar?
A: The Energy Miser® hardware parallels to the purlins and is attached to the bottom, suspending approximately eight inches.

Q: Can the Energy Miser System be installed below the mainframes of the building so the entire ceiling area is covered?
A: It is best to install the Energy Miser close to the bottom of the purlins. When hangar doors are left open there is potential for wind damage to the insulation system if it is installed below the mainframes.

Q: What is the Energy Miser® hardware?
A: The hardware consists of rows of galvanized tubes spaced at 10'-12' on center. They attach to virtually any type building using an I-Bolt and the appropriate type clip-head for the structure.

Q: Can I insulate my walls with the Energy Miser® system?
A: Yes! The Energy Miser® system is designed so that the walls can be insulated in conjunction with the ceiling. In doing this, the ceiling and wall are manufactured as one piece. In most cases the hangar door can also be insulated.

Q: Can I insulate my hangar doors with insulation?
A: Yes. ICA can install insulation on all types of hangar doors.

Q: I have this ugly “blow-on” insulation that keeps falling to the ground. Do I have to remove it?
A: No! The Energy Miser® system can be installed without having to remove any existing insulation.

Q: Can the Energy Miser system be installed in a new building?
A: Yes. A perforated faced blanket should be installed over the top of the purlins before the roof sheets are attached. The Energy Miser system can be installed after the building is enclosed.

Q:  Does ICA have a representative or installer in my area that can come look at my hangar?
A: ICA has offices in Kansas and New York. Contact us at (800) 373-4262 for pricing inquiries. We have crews that travel across the country that can install everything from small private to larger corporate hangars.

Q: I have a maintenance crew and I think I can install the Energy Miser® myself. Can this be done?
A: Yes! ICA can sell the materials only if you want to install the system yourself or have a local contractor do it. We have an installation manual and phone support for any questions. You can also hire one of ICA’s foremen for a couple of days to get your crew trained.

Q: I like the way the Energy Miser® system installs, but I don’t want to lose the light I get from my skylights.
A: No problem. For a nominal price the skylights can be “boxed-out” and the ceiling fastened around them. But it has been our experience that most skylights aren’t energy efficient and a majority of companies have lights on during the day. Covering the skylights will save utility costs since the insulation facing is an 85% reflective material.

Q: What if I have a sprinkler system in my hangar?
A: .The minimum clearance required to install the Energy Miser® system is approximately 14 inches. Lowering a sprinkler system is relatively inexpensive compared to the thermal savings achieved using the Energy Miser®. We can consult your local sprinkler contractor to verify what the minimum clearance requirement must be from the sprinkler head to the ceiling.

Q: What kind of thermal savings can I achieve using the Energy Miser® system?
A:  The Energy Miser® system is ASTM C236 Guarded Hot Box tested to perform to certified R-values. It is possible to save as much as 60% on your utility bills.

Q: Do I have to have to shut down my business while the Energy Miser® system is being installed?
A: No! Since 1985 ICA has installed over 14 million square feet of insulation with little or no interruption to daily operations.

Q: What warranty does the Energy Miser® system have?
A: ICA offers a one-year warranty on materials and workmanship.
